Scotch whisky can transport you in an instant to a land of wild glens, rugged moors, and deep, mysterious lochs. That’s where the journey of The Sassenach and its founder, Sam Heughan, begins. It’s a tale of the unbreakable emotional connection to his native land. No matter how far away from home, one dram and the Spirit of Home is with him. 

The journey started out by celebrating the craft at the heart of Scotland’s historic whisky traditions, evolving into a quest to create a modern whisky that evokes tradition while looking forward to a new world of approachability and balance. It was about finding the perfect blend of elements that would bring the vision for The Sassenach to life – character, elegance, and the extraordinary quality to conjure the essence of Scotland in a glass. 

The Sassenach – Spirit of Home Edition was launched in 2021 to worldwide acclaim and a multitude of awards. The same passion and dedication would apply to the growing collection of carefully crafted premium spirits in the Sassenach Spirits portfolio. 

The Sassenach Wild Scottish Gin was launched in 2023 and has been lauded by customers, the mixology community, and spirits competitions alike.

Our newest expression, The Sassenach Fine Scottish Vodka, was released in late 2025 is available in the USA, UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand with more market launches planned soon.

Sassenach Spirits also acquired Galloway Distillery in 2025, fulfilling one of Sam’s lifelong dreams to own a distillery not only in his native Scotland, but in his hometown of Galloway. The distillery is currently open for tours and tastings with major renovations planned for for 2026-2027.
